Mark Spender
Partner & Chief Investment Officer
Mark serves as Bernhard Capital Partners’ Chief Investment Officer and Chairman of Bernhard’s Investment Committees and is a member of Bernhard’s Executive Committee. Mark has more than 25 years of experience investing in, managing, advising, and raising capital for middle-market companies in the infrastructure services sector.
He is involved in all elements of investing on behalf of Bernhard, including sourcing, evaluating, and executing new investments, supporting strategy and operations of various portfolio companies, and working with the rest of the Executive Committee to define strategy, goals, and decisions for the firm. He is also responsible for a variety of other firm-related activities, including fundraising, recruiting, and talent development.
Mark serves on the boards of several Bernhard portfolio companies, including Allied Power, Brailsford & Dunlavey, Railworks, TechServ, and United Utility. He previously served on the boards of former Bernhard investments, Atlas Technical Consultants and Charah Solutions.
Prior to joining Bernhard in 2015, Mark served as a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Group at Credit Suisse and had previously spent several years at UBS Investment Bank. During his more than 15 years in investment banking, he was involved in numerous transactions in the infrastructure services and related sectors. He advised and assisted Fortune 500 companies and private equity clients on mergers and acquisitions as well as capital raising in the leveraged finance and equity capital markets.
Mark received his B.B.A. Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. He lives with his wife and four children in Brentwood, Tennessee.
